The Hawea Bike Park, Lake Hawea

Opened in November 2020, the Hawea Bike Park was built by Bike Wanaka on an undeveloped area of council land. The idea was to build from the existing pump track and add a flow line, jump line and a skills area so giving the local riders a place to hone their skills.

Bike Wanaka contracted local builder Dirt Dynamics to build the park, and the work was supported by a grant from the council and plenty of volunteer help with the planting and maintenance.

The Kirimoko Trails, Wanaka

In 2020, landowner Southern Ventures agreed to allow Bike Wanaka build a small network of mountain bike trails in the area above the Kirimoko sub-division of Wanaka. The area was until 2019 a mature pine plantation, home to a number of ancient mountain bike trails that had been built by keen locals. With the clearing of the forest, the landowner generously heard Bike Wanaka's proposal to replace the lost trails.

The Kirimoko Trails were designed to appeal to a wide range of skill levels and be sympathetic to the landscape as well as harking back to the original trails of the old forest. We see the Kirimoko Bike Park as a blueprint for what can be done to increase the amount of public-use trails in the Wanaka area. With a focus on low visual impact and high level of quality being professionally built by Cranking Fine and Dirt Dynamics, the Kirimoko trails are a great place for families, kids, teenagers and adults, with something for every level of mountain biker.
