the Kirimoko Trails

Amazing trails right out the back door

Bike Wanaka is building a new biking area for the community above Kirimoko development in Wanaka.

What is it?

The Kirimoko Trails will appeal to a wide range of skill levels, be sympathetic to the landscape and hark back to the original trails in the old forest.

The Trails

Up Trail - The easiest way up. This climbing trail will have a gentle gradient and wide switchback corners to take you from the walking track at the bottom to the summit. Plus, we'll be opening the gate to Sticky - so this is an alternative way to get to the Summit quickly.

Family Trail - A flow trail that all riders can have fun on and encourages novice riders to come back for more. This wide trail with a gentle gradient will be a great introduction to riding berms and rollers. Fun for all ages.

Flow line - This trail will be for riders who want to go to the next level. It will have more features including bigger berms, rollers, drops and gap jumps with “B” lines.

Jump Line - When you’ve mastered the Flow Line this will let you really get the hang of jumping! This trail will be very similar in style to the original trails of the area and will feature gap jumps with “B” lines. This will be a real step up for those willing to take it.

What is the plan?

We have secured support and generous financial help from the landowner, Southern Ventures and have since commissioned a design and run a tender process. Work is now underway with local companies Cranking Fine and Dirt Dynamics building the trails between them - with additional help to be recruited from our local volunteer base.

Work will start in late October 2020 and we aim to deliver at least the first three trails by Christmas. The Jump Line will then follow in autumn 2021.

What help do we need?

As well as grant from Southern Ventures, we've also asked a local trust for help. The project is backed by Bike Wanaka's cash reserve but we'd like to retain the ability to commit to further projects and so we're reaching out to the community for support. We're aiming to raise $15K from the Deans Bank 10 Hr and other activities this spring.
